Hamnavoe ‘engagement exercise’ for local businesses

Serco NorthLink has been opening up its ferries to the business communities in which they serve this week.

It will come as no surprise if local businesses choose the event to raise further concerns over the cuts to the timetable implemented on the Pentland Firth route. Last month, a number of businesses in the tourism sector raised concerns about the changes in the timetable, and how the timing of sailings has lead to a downturn in business for them.

However, a Serco NorthLink spokesperson said this week that the engagement event was not about the timetable issue.

Stuart Garrett, managing director of NorthLink Ferries said: “By engaging with members of the local business community, those who attend will have the chance to see the new onboard services, sample our new menu and hear more about our marketing campaign to encourage visitors to the Northern Isles.”

The Orkney event is on the Hamnavoe, today, Thursday, from 11.15am until 2.15pm.
