‘Orkney: A Special Place’ launch in The Orcadian Bookshop

A new Orkney book will be launched in The Orcadian Bookshop, Kirkwall, this afternoon, Friday.

Orkney — A Special Place is by Richard Clubley, who will also give a talk and slideshow at the launch.

A retired schoolteacher from Yorkshire, Richard is a dedicated island enthusiast and for his latest book spent seven months in the county over 2015 and 2016.

“I met as many people as possible, and tried to get local voices and opinions into everything I wrote,” he said.

“There are chapters on just about every aspect of Orkney life, including history, archaeology, wildlife, schools, buildings, produce, furniture-making, cruise liners, travel, renewable energy — and even the new hospital gets a chapter.”

The launch event, in the bookshop gallery, in Albert Street, begins at 2pm.
