The first water buffalo calf to be born in Orkney, made his appearance in early hours of this morning.

The calf is the newest edition to the herd of Asian Water Buffalo recently brought to Orkney by Russell and Naomi Bremner, of Schoolhouse Farm, Deerness.

The couple said: “We had been keeping a close eye on the heifer for a few days, and we were delighted to find our first Orkney-born calf in the field this morning just getting to its feet. Buffalo are really natural mothers, and both mother and calf are doing away grand.”
