The Outrun wins Wainwright prize
Orkney author Amy Liptrot’s book The Outrun has won this year’s Wainwright Prize.
The winner of the prize was announced this afternoon at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire, with The Outrun being chosen unanimously by the judges from a shortlist of six books.
Now in its third year, the prize awards £5,000 annually to the work that best reflects renowned nature writer Alfred Wainwright’s core values of celebrating the great British outdoors.
First published in January this year, The Outrun is the story of the author’s recovery from alcoholism and a powerful statement about the restorative power of the natural world in Orkney.
