Around 400 Papdale Primary school children set off at noon today, Thursday, on the first leg of a sponsored walk.

The children are supporting ex-Royal Marine Richard Walker at the start of his “Orkney Challenge”  – a 146-mile walk around the coastal roads of the Orkney Mainland raising funds for the “Go Commando” charity and Papdale Parent Council’s playground development project.

From Helgis, in Kirkwall, the walk went along Bridge Street, Albert Street, Broad Street, Palace Road and Bignold Park Road before heading out to the East Mainland. The children will peel off at various points along this route to return to school, leaving Richard to continue on the first leg of his marathon trek.
