Parish Cup teams discover their fate

Stromness and Rendall met in last year’s Parish Cup Final.

The draw for The Orcadian Parish Cup first round was made this morning.

The draw, aired live on BBC Radio Orkney, saw 14 sides enter, including a tough return for four-time winners Deerness, who are set to play holders and back-to-back winners Stromness.

The standout tie of the first round is arguably Sandwick v Holm. The East Mainland side, who have been regulars in the latter stages of the competition in recent years, sent Sandwick crashing out at the first hurdle in 2015, while the 23-time winners have experienced lean years since beating Holm in the 2012 final.

Other notables ties sees 14-time winners St Ola face a tough test against South Ronaldsay, while Birsay play host to St Andrews.

Stenness face Firth and two Isles sides face each other as last year’s semi-finalists Westray play Flotta, Hoy and Walls. Sanday and Rendall are given byes.

The competition is due to commence at the start of May.

The quarter-final draw is set to be live streamed on The Orcadian Facebook page tomorrow morning at approximately 10am.
