Wintry weather reminder from police

After a number of accidents this morning, involving the wintry weather conditions, police are urging motorists  to be extra cautious on the roads.

According to police, drivers should not make unnecessary car trips, allow for extra time when planning their journeys and be extra cautious while driving, especially in early in the morning before the gritters have been on the roads.

Drivers are also urged to make sure they carry equipment including a mobile phone, de-icer and an ice scraper in their car.

One accident confirmed by police this morning was a two-vehicle collision around 8.15am on the Howe Road in Stromness. No one involved in the accident was hurt.
