Police officers save man from house fire
Two police officers attending an unrelated call in the Hamnavoe area of Stromness saved a man from a house fire at the weekend.
Acting Sergeant Jim Munro and PC Gary Dunnett heard an alarm coming from a house and after checking the letter box they saw smoke inside the building.
They also noticed a 21-year-old man asleep on the couch and therefore attempted to break into the property. The man roused at this point and the officers assisted him out of the property through a kitchen window.
Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service attended and aired the house, which did not suffer any extensive damage, only smoke. The man himself was not injured.
