Police release name of road accident victim

police-scotland-logo-2Police have named the 32-year-old motorist who died in a road accident in Sandwick yesterday morning.

He was James Gunn, from Stromness.

According to Police Scotland, they were notified of the incident, near Garson Farm, at 5.30am on Saturday morning

A spokesman said: “On police attendance it was found that the sole male occupant of the vehicle had died as a result of his injuries. The road was closed for 12 hours whilst enquiries to establish the full circumstances were carried out.”

Anyone who witnessed the accident, or saw a white Ford Focus being driven on the A967, between Stromness and Twatt, between 4.15am and 5.30am on Saturday, June 25, and who hasn’t already made themselves known to police, should contact Kirkwall Police Station on 101.
