Public invited to discuss Orkney’s future development

A public consultation event in Kirkwall next Friday will help shape development across Orkney in the years ahead.

The OIC is seeking views and ideas for the next version of the county’s Local Development Plan (LDP) and the event, in the Pickaquoy Centre, will feature a number of key speakers giving presentations on some of the main issues.

These include housing, business development, the marine environment and wind energy.

However, because numbers are limited, anyone wishing to attend is asked to contact the development team on 873535 ext 2531 or email devplan@orkney.gov.uk

LDPs provide a vision for how communities will grow and develop in future and a new plan is due to be adopted by OIC in late 2016

Orkney’s current plan provides key planning information for individuals, communities and investors on where development should take place and where it should not — and on the supporting infrastructure which may be required.

Consultation documents are available here.

A member of the council’s development and marine planning team will be on hand to provide further information from 9am-5pm Monday to Friday at customer services in Kirkwall and on Fridays from 10am-5pm at the Warehouse Buildings in Stromness.
