Recycling collection affected by weather

Orkney Islands Council is advising that today’s recycling collection for Area 7 – Holm, Burray (North) and Kirkwall (South) – is being impacted by the high winds.

Staff on the route will collect what they can, however, due to the risk of windblown litter, it may not be possible to collect all recyclates today, especially lighter items such as paper and plastics.

Staff may also place bins on their sides after collections to reduce the risk of bins being blown into paths and roads. Recycling not collected today can be taken to Civic Amenity Sites, or bagged up (keeping different recyclates separate) for the next collection.

The next scheduled recycling collection for Area 7 will be Tuesday, January 17.

With the bad weather set to continue over the next few days, anyone due to put their bins out before Christmas is advised to keep an eye on the OIC Updates Facebook page for updates. Collections in rural areas especially could be impacted by the forecasted windy conditions.
