Schedule in place for development of new children’s home

Orkney Health and Care’s Partnership Board today heard of the revised schedule for a new £1.4m children’s house in Orkney.

The planning application for the new facility should be submitted in June or July this year, with a contractor being selected in October and work due to start on site by December.

Watersfield, in Kirkwall, has been selected as the preferred site for the new building which will replace the existing Camoran children’s home.

Vice-chaimanr of the Orkney health and care partnership board, Russ Madge, said: “I’m really pleased that we now have a series of dates to work with that will see a new children’s home in Orkney.

“We have also invested in our fostering and adoption service, all of which will go towards strengthening the council’s role as a corporate parent. This will give us the opportunity to improve the life chances of our looked after children.”
