Scots Trad Music Awards winners announced tonight

Acc and fiddThe fate of Orkney’s nominees in this year’s annual Scots Trad Music Awards will be revealed tonight, at the Caird Hall in Dundee.

The awards will be broadcast live on BBC Alba from 9pm.

In addition, BBC Radio Scotland will be broadcasting from the event — and the event will reach a larger audience than ever before, as people will be able to keep up with the show online at www.bbc.co.uk/alba.

One of Orkney’s longest established traditional music groups, the Orkney Accordion and Fiddle Club are in the running for the Club of the Year Prize, while all-girl band, Fara have received a nod in the Up and Coming Artist of the Year category.

Kris Drever’s band Lau’s acclaimed recording, The Bell that Never Rang, is up for Album of the Year.

Blazin’ Fiddles — who now have Birsay’s Kristan Harvey among their line-up — are also in the running for this award, with the album, North.

Hosting the evening will be the prodigiously-talented duo, Mary Ann Kennedy and Tony Kearney.

Along with presentations of awards across 16 categories, the evening will feature live performances from a host of top Scottish performers, including renowned Gaelic singer Cathy Ann MacPhee who will be travelling from Canada for the occasion, as well as the Peatbog Faeries and Duncan Chisholm, who won Album of the Year 2014.
