This morning has seen a second emergency shipment of straw arrive in Westray.

Three shipments, carrying a total of between 450 to 500 tonnes of straw, are being delivered to the island to help farms affected by the unseasonably wet weather seen over the summer months this year.

The first shipment arrived, aboard the MV Burhou — which  transported the supplies direct from Montrose —on Saturday with the third due to arrive either on Thursday or Friday this week.

The shipments are a culmination of work carried out by the Westray branch of NFU Scotland, NFUS head office, the Scottish Government, RSABI and Ringlink Machinery Ring which is based in Elgin.
