Shapinsay ferry to tie up after 11.30am sailing

Orkney Ferries has announced that the Shapinsay ferry will tie up for the rest of the day after the 11.30am sailing from Kirkwall tomorrow morning, Wednesday.

The company has faced a number of staffing difficulties in recent weeks, including industrial action.

This, says the company, means they are facing considerable challenges in keeping the entire fleet running, with the overtime ban making it more difficult at times to find replacement crew when, as in this instance, there are sickness absences.

The Shapinsay should be operating its normal timetable again on Thursday.

In the meantime, the company is contacting passengers intending to travel tomorrow to let them know that the final sailing will be from Kirkwall at 11.30am.
