Storm Gertrude continues to cause power issues

Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD) is today reporting further problems in the county, following yesterday’s arrival of Storm Gertrude.

Around 1,150 of the power supplier’s customers in the county are experiencing blackouts with approximately 900 of those in South Ronaldsay.

There are also problems in Westray, Longhope and Lyness, all of which are thought to have been caused by lightning strikes.

SHEPD has reported that it currently has engineers working in all of these locations and they hope to have power restored in South Ronaldsay within the next hour.
