Two late goals complete Thurso comeback
Thurso fought back from two goals down to deny Orkney FC a third consecutive North Caledonian League victory this afternoon.
The visitors’ 3-2 victory extends Thurso’s 100 per cent start to the 2017/18 season, topping the table with three wins from three, while Orkney were left dejected at a first defeat of the season.
The disappointment was exacerbated by Orkney letting a two-goal lead slip, in a match ruined by the strong wind.
Playing with the wind on their backs in the first half, Orkney went into the break two up, courtesy of a header from Erik Bews and a strike from Joe Wilson.
Thurso, who struggled to impose themselves as an attacking force in the first half, cut the deficit in half just three minutes into the second period — Innes Mackintosh scoring directly from an inswinging corner kick.
The score remained 2-1 for the majority of the half — until Thurso scored twice in the dying embers of the match to seal the win.
First James Murray planted a header against the underside of the crossbar and into the net for an 88th minute equaliser, and then just two minutes later, Steven Morris took full advantage of a defensive error, dinking the ball over Laird to break Orkney hearts.
