The first ba’ of the season was won by the Uppie boys in a fantastic game of twists and turns which saw the ba’ taken to the Uppie goal just before 12.30pm.

At 10am the Danny Bain crafted ba’ was donated and thrown up by Billy Hough into a pack which contained a greater number of Uppies than Doonies.

Twenty minutes in, from Broad Street, an Uppie break took the ba’ almost to the roundabout near McEwen’s shop on Junction Road.

A short time after, a Doonie break saw the ba’ taken from Junction Road, down Gunn’s Close, up Victoria Street, Victoria Road, past the palaces at the Watergate, across the Kirk Green, and ending up at Gorn’s shop on Albert Street.

Play moved to the Bank of Scotland, before the decisive move of the game saw young Aiden Cooper break out with the ba’ down the lane at the Big Tree, before it was passed on to fellow Uppies who took it to the corner, and his brother Findley Cooper, 15, was quickly declared a popular winner.
