Water team’s Orkney visit

A team from Scottish Water is visiting Orkney this week to help ensure drinking water sources are of the highest possible quality.

Members of Scottish Water’s sustainable land management team are visiting areas around Loch of Kirbister on and Bea Loch, between April 29 and May 2, as part of the utility’s commitment to protecting and enhancing the environment.

Mick Kirkwood, catchment liaison officer, said: “The visits to the Loch of Kirbister and Bea Loch will give Scottish Water, working with NFU Scotland, the opportunity to assess whether there is any prospect of diffuse pollution entering the water supply system. Preventing diffuse pollution means water is easier to treat in our works, for the benefit of customers.

“It is also an opportunity for us speak to landowners and farmers in the area, and we would be happy to discuss our work with those locally who have an interest.”
