Weather advice from the OIC

A combination of low pressure, strong winds, high tides and the effects of a very long period of south-easterly gales could result in continuing travel disruption in Orkney later this week and over the weekend.

Drivers are advised to take particular care on exposed coastal roads, with spray and overtopping by waves likely in areas close to the sea.

The wind, tide and swell conditions could also result in some coastal flooding.

Weather and transport advice is available at www.orkney.gov.uk – go to Adverse Weather Alerts from the home page. These include a link the council’s Twitter feed, where updates are posted if the Churchill Barriers are affected by the prevailing weather and tidal conditions.
