Andrew Johnstone exhibition at The Old Library

The Exhibition Room at the Old Library, in Kirkwall, is currently hosting a posthumous display of work by Dundee-born artist Andrew Johnstone, a man who, throughout his artistic career, captured his love for Orkney’s landscapes.

The exhibition began yesterday, Thursday and will run until Saturday, October 27.

Lightnin' Willie and The Poorboys in Stromness

Live music fans are in for a treat this Sunday in Stromness with veteran bluesman Lightnin’ Willie and his band, the Poorboys, set to take the stage in Stromness Town Hall.

Willie will be bringing more than 20 years of touring experience to the town all the way from his home in Los Angeles.

His most recent album, No White No Black Just Blues has been met with acclaim from blues fans and critics alike.

October Holiday Drop-in Activities at The Pier Arts Centre

The Pier Arts Centre in Stromness is currently running October Holidays Drop-in activities, offering fun art activities for children above the age of three, focused on their collection and exhibition programme.

Admission is completely free with sessions running today and tomorrow as well as next week.

No booking is required and all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Fancy heading to see a film this weekend?

The Phoenix Cinema, in Kirkwall, has fun for all the family this weekend.

First up, at noon on Friday, there will be a showing  of the animated science fiction adventure film, Luis and The Aliens.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will see showings of King of Thieves (15), a British crime film based on the now infamous real-life Hatton Garden safe deposit burglary, which took place in 2015.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will also see showings of the fantasy film, The House With A Clock In Its Walls (12A), starring Cate Blanchett and Jack Black.

Last, but not least, there will be a showing of the animated fantasy/musical, Smallfoot (U), which boasts a bumper cast of big names including Channing Tatum, Zendaya and James Corden.

Over in Stromness, this Saturday will see a screening of the Paraguayan drama, The Heiresses (12A) with doors opening at 7.15pm for a 7.45pm start.
