Yacht aground at Inganess Bay

Kirkwall Lifeboat and Coastguard Rescue Teams were called to Inganess Bay tonight, after being alerted that a yacht was aground on the beach.

On attending the scene, the American flagged catamaran Makara could be seen high and dry on the shore.

However, a spokesman for Shetland Coastguard said that the crew of the yacht, when contacted, told them that the vessel had been beached on purpose, so that repairs to the rudder could be carried out.

The Coastguard also said that it was hoped that the yacht would be refloated at high water, around 2.30am.
