Jewson site – councillors back sale or lease plan

Islands councillors have recommended that the former Jewson’s site, Burnmouth Road and Junction Road properties be marketed for sale, or long term lease, to allow developers to play a lead role in the regeneration of the area.

Development principles for the area are set out in the Kirkwall Central West Development Brief, which outlines key land use, pedestrian routes, open spaces and building height levels to ensure that regeneration complements the Kirkwall town centre.

Officers hope to market the property over the summer with the aim of finalising terms, if satisfactory offers are received, before the end of this year.
