Plans and designs are being drawn up for the replacement St Peter’s House in Stromness.

After a competitive tendering exercise, the OIC has appointed Glasgow-based Young and Gault Architects to lead the design project.

The aim is to replace the current 28-bed St Peter’s House with a modern 40-bed facility at Garson West. The site was chosen after a community engagement exercise.

Caroline Sinclair, chief officer for health and social care, said: “This project will result in a purpose-built care home, incorporating all the modern features we need to provide residents with quality care to the highest standards.

“The design team have been on site and in discussion with us and are now developing detailed plans for the new facility.

“It is good to see the project progressing and I am sure this will be welcomed by residents, their families and our staff, as well as by the wider community in Stromness.”

The plans and designs will go on show to the public later this year, with construction work due to begin in the summer of 2017.
