Graemsay water supply disrupted
Scottish Water says it is working to restore water supplies to Graemsay following a suspected issue with the subsea pipeline that supplies the island from north Hoy.
The company say that resources have been mobilised to start investigation work to determine what repairs are necessary.
It added that bottled water was delivered to the island yesterday, and further water supplies are being transported via boat to replenish the tank on the island as soon as possible. Once in place, this will restore supplies to customers while repairs are carried out.
Scottish Water has issued advice on the use of the temporary water supply:
The temporary water supply should be boiled before drinking, cleaning teeth, preparing babies feeds, and disinfecting feeding equipment, as well as preparing food including ice cubes and salads, pet food and drink, and washing open wounds.
Customers can still use tap water that has not been boiled for bathing, showering and washing except open wounds, washing dishes – use hot water and dry thoroughly before use, washing clothes and toilet flushing.
Scottish Water says that it apologises for any inconvenience to residents and businesses on Graemsay, and assures islanders they are working around the clock to restore supplies.
