New crossing in Kirkwall is supported by councillors
Councillors have approved of the installation of a zebra crossing on Pickaquoy Road, close to Tesco supermarket, with the store owners agreeing to contribute to the cost.
The section of Pickaquoy Road, by Tesco, saw two accidents involving pedestrians and vehicles last year.
Councillors at Tuesday’s meeting of the development and infrastructure committee agreed on the move, which still has to be approved of at Full Council.
A council decision on plans to put the crossing on the road, and indeed the decision on the type of crossing, had earlier been deferred in order to have discussions with the supermarket over the issue.
