OIC gives update on Level Three sports and leisure restrictions

Orkney Islands Council has provided an update on the operation of some of its sports and leisure facilities, while the county continues to come under Level Three restrictions.

After a review of Scottish Government, sportscotland and Governing Bodies of Sport guidance, as well as current facility usage figures, OIC explained the following facilities and activities would be affected by the measures:

KGS Sport Centre

  • Facility opening hours will be reduced to 25 hrs per week as per the new timetable published.
  • Indoor group exercise classes remain cancelled however we have recently launched our Online Exercise Programme which started from 11 January scheduled until 31 January which you can still request to join by emailing leisure.culture@orkney.gov.uk.
  • Group bookings for organised outdoor contact sport, competition, events and physical activity for adults (18+ years) will be contacted and cancelled until 31 January.
  • Group bookings for organised indoor sport, competition, events and physical activity for adults (18 + years) will be contacted and cancelled until 31 January.

Stromness Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre

  • No change to current operation.

Stromness Community Centre and Town Hall

  • Facilities to reopen on the 1 February 2021 subject to guidance.

Dounby Centre

  • Facilities to reopen for gym use and junior group bookings on a reduced timetable from the 18 January as per the new timetable published.

Healthy Living Centres

  • No change to current operation

Kirkwall Community Centre and Town Hall

  • Facilities to reopen on the 1 February 2021 subject to guidance.

St Magnus Café

  • No Change to current operation
