OIC gauge interest in affordable housing sites

Orkney Islands Council would like to hear from anyone interested in purchasing affordable, serviced housing sites.

OIC head of strategic development and regeneration, Evelyn Mathershaw, said: “From discussions with people during the development of our Affordable Housing Strategy, we know that there is interest out there in the concept of affordable serviced sites – whether these are developed by the council or by private developers.

“It’s perceived as one way that people with limited incomes can have some control and input over what their final house will look like – but we do need to explore the level of interest in greater detail.

“While we are still finalising eligibility criteria with councillors, we’d like also to be in a position where we have a waiting list for sites as soon as they become available.

“Generally speaking, affordable serviced sites will be offered to people with clear housing needs on lower household incomes.”
