IMG_0537

FinstownFireSep2015_06The road through Finstown was closed on Wednesday afternoon after firefighters were called to deal with a house fire in the village.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were notified of the fire at 1.45pm and two appliances – once from Kirkwall and one from Stromness – were sent to the scene.

Upon arrival, the firefighters were faced with a “well-developed” fire in a two-storey building and used three main jets to tackle the blaze.

The fire was brought under control but the property was severely damaged. Fortunately, all occupants of the house were accounted for and there were no injuries.

The road re-opened on Wednesday evening.
