Orkney Islands Council will welcome new tenants into the former Stromness Library building later this year.

The building, at the foot of the Hellihole Road in the town, has been vacant since the library service moved to its new home in the Warehouse Buildings last year.

It’s now due to be converted by Workshop & Artists Studio Provision Scotland (Wasps) into creative workspace and will be called “Stromness Studios”. According to Wasps, it is expected work will be completed in September.

Chairman of the OIC’s development and infrastructure committee, Councillor James Stockan said: “This is a great addition to Stromness as we seek to find purposeful uses for our redundant buildings. We have been in dialogue with Wasps for a number of years and are delighted to project has come to fruition.”
