Speakers bound for Orkney for ‘Visualising the North’
The Centre for Nordic Studies at the University of the Highlands and Islands will be hosting the third International St Magnus Conference in Orkney from April 14-16l.
The three-day conference, Visualising the North, will encompass various themes, such as Icelandic sagas, the archaeology of the North Atlantic folklore and modern literature.
Keynote speakers will include Barbara Crawford, Honorary Reader in Medieval History University of St Andrews; Kevin Smith, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology, Brown University, Rhode Island; and Carla Sassi, Associate Professor of English Literature, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, University of Verona, Italy.
Alexandra Sanmark, Reader in Medieval Archaeology with the Centre for Nordic Studies, said: “We are expecting more than 80 speakers at this conference.
“Some are from Orkney and Scotland more widely, but there are also a large number of international participants. We are very much looking forward to this exciting event and are hoping that many people in Orkney will want to come along.”
