Switch onto big energy savings ideas
Orkney Islands Council Trading Standards Service and the Orkney Citizens Advice Bureau will be joining national efforts this week to make sure consumers are “switched on” to energy savings ideas.
There will be two displays in Kirkwall for Big Energy Saving Week – aimed at highlighting the range of support available to help consumers reduce their energy bills — at the One Stop Shop at the council offices and at the Orkney Library and Archive.
This year, consumers are being encouraged to CHECK – SWITCH – INSULATE:
- check they are on the best tariff with their current supplier,
- consider switching supplier to get a better deal; and
- ensure their home is insulated so that they can reduce energy bills.
During the week, the Council will be providing information about understanding bills, checking tariffs, how to switch suppliers and the range of sources of help for insulation and energy improvements.
Anyone wanting face-to-face advice or assistance, for example with understanding their bills, can ask to see an adviser at the Council between 10am and 12pm and between 2pm and 4pm for the duration of Big Energy Savings Week.
Information about the week can also be accessed online at www.citizensadvice.org.uk/besw or by calling the Trading Standards Service at the council on 01856 873535.
