Views sought on vision for £1.3 billion rural development programme

Farmers and crofters are being urged to take part in the Scottish Goverment’s Rural Development funding consultation.

Detailed proposals for the new Scotland Rural Development Programme (SRDP) were unveiled by rural affairs secretary Richard Lochhead on Wednesday. They include plans to protect vital rural development support for farmers, including the Less Favoured Area Support Scheme (LFASS), and to increase funding for agri-environmental schemes.

The proposals for the seven-year programme – which is worth more than £1.3 billion between 2015 and 2020 – are now the subject of a formal consultation. A separate consultation on Pillar One will be launched next week.

Full details of the consultation, which runs until February 28, 2014,  can be found here: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2013/12/7550
