Kirkwall Lifeboat called to yacht

Kirkwall Lifeboat was launched this afternoon to head for a Danish yacht north of Orkney with two people on board, which reported being trapped in fishing gear while heading for Westray.

A Coastguard spokeswoman said that the two crew are not injured, but the boat was unable to manoeuvre, and they requested assistance in cutting the fishing line.

However, giving another update to the situation, around 2.30pm, the Coastguard said that the yacht crew had managed to free their vessel, which was now heading for Westray.
