Orkney athletes prepare for second day of competition in Bermuda

Several Orkney sportspeople will be looking to add to Orkney’s medal tally at the Island Games in Bermuda today. Orkney is currently sitting sixth in the overall medal table after day one of competition.

Adam Bews, who lost out in the quarter-finals of the mens singles squash, to number one seed Nick Taylor last night, will play-off for 5th—8th position today.

On the athletics track, Magnus Blair runs in the first heat of the 100 metres, to be held just after 10am, with the final scheduled for the evening, while Jodie Drever lines up for Orkney in the women’s event. Thomas Fay is among the field for the men’s 10,000 metres while  Thora Cant will be one of six competitors contesting the women’s javelin final, which is due to start at 7.40pm Bermuda time.

Several Orkney swimmers will begin competition in the pool with heats scheduled for the morning and finals in the evening.

Orkney’s golf team consisting of Stewart Fotheringhame, Samuel Parkinson, Michael Schinkel and Sean Fotheringhame start their first round at the Port Royal Golf Course, amongst a field of almost 60 competitors.

Sailor, Andrew Leslie will take part in heats three and four of the laser standard rig competition. He is sitting in 14th position after heats one and two.
