Parish Cup defending champions held in Dounby
The Orcadian Parish Cup defending champions Stromness fought out a 1-1 draw with Birsay this evening to leave the tie on a knife-edge going into the second leg in two weeks time.
Rearranged to Dounby due to the Market Green being closed in Stromness, Scott Smith fired the home side in front after 15 minutes with a top corner effort from the edge of the box. Stromness hit back just five minutes later however, when Owen Merriman bundled his side’s equaliser home after a goalkeeping error.
In the day’s other fixture, Rendall saw off Stenness 3-0 to give themselves a sizeable advantage ahead of the second leg.
The second legs of all the first round ties are scheduled to be played over the weekend of May 21 and 22.
