Police appeal after pedestrian suffered serious injuries

Police in Orkney have issued an appeal for information following the road accident near Stromness last night, which resulted in a pedestrian who suffered serious injuries being transferred to hospital in Glasgow for treatment.

Police say that enquiries are continuing into the collision on the A967 near Newburgh, north of Stromness, adding that the road remains closed.

Police say that the incident involved a blue Vauxhall Vectra car and a male pedestrian, and happened at approximately 7.30pm on Monday.

The 57-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries in the collision and has been taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow.

The road has remained closed for road policing officers to carry out an investigation at the scene. A local signposted diversion is in place, and further updates will be provided in due course.

Road policing sergeant Gregor Hay said: “Our thoughts are with the injured man and his family at this time. Our enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances of this collision.

“A number of witnesses have already been spoken to but I would ask that anybody who has information about this incident but has not yet spoken to officers makes contact as soon possible.

“You can pass information on by calling 101, quoting reference NK548/18.”
