STV weatherman Sean Batty — due to begin the Orkney leg of his STV appeal fundraiser today.

STV weatherman Sean Batty is hoping for sunshine this morning, as he sets off on the Orkney leg of his Northern Isles Challenge cycle run.

Sean will be fundraising on Broad Street from 8.45am, before setting off from outside St Magnus Cathedral at 9.30am to cycle the West Mainland.

The STV Appeal is committed to helping children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland. In its first two years the appeal raised £3.3 million – supporting 98 big and small projects across all 32 local authority areas in Scotland, helping over 9,000 children.

The OIC’s executive director of education, leisure and housing, Leslie Manson is getting into the saddle to join Sean: “I’ll be cycling the 60 miles on a run around the West Mainland on the Tuesday.

“It’d be great to see local folk along the route joining in the cycle or taking part in the fundraising events in support of Sean and this very good cause.”

Sean will cycle around the West Mainland, stopping for a refreshment stop and lunchtime event, around 2.30pm, at the Ferry Inn in Stromness. He will then be joined by Stromness cyclists on the way back to Kirkwall for a fundraising event at the Pickaquoy Centre at 5.30pm.

In the evening Sean is taking part in a fundraising quiz, organised by the Orkney Club, at 9pm.

Tomorrow, Sean sets off from the Pickaquoy Centre at 8.30am and will cycle to Burwick, with a final lunchtime fundraiser and farewell party at the Skerries Bistro.
