Two hard fought wins in Parish Cup
Stromness and Holm won two hard-fought Parish Cup ties today as they beat St Andrews 3-2 and Rendall 1-0. In the day’s earlier kick off, St Andrews were two nil down and went down to 10 men in the first half but fought back in the second half with two goals from Scott Drever. Both teams hit the woodwork throughout the game in an entertaining game and just as the game looked to be finishing in a draw, striker Ross Slater fired in a low free-kick which evaded everyone and nestled into the corner to send the Stromness supporters into ecstasy.
In the day’s 7pm kick off, Rendall welcomed Holm at The Rockery. The match wasn’t as entertaining as Stromness v St Andrews game but was closely fought and competitive. Both teams were fairly equal in every department but a long-range shot from Holm’s second half substitute, Alan Aim secured the win for Holm and a first leg advantage for the men from the east. Rendall striker, Chris Hellewell hit the post late on but it wasn’t to be for Rendall.
