Update: Pickaquoy Centre to remain closed

The Pickaquoy Centre has confirmed that the facility will remain closed for the rest of today, Wednesday, following an incident overnight.

“All classes and club bookings will be cancelled including the Stress Control class tonight at 6:30pm,” the centre confirmed on its Facebook page.

“We will update you once we have more information and apologise for this inconvenience.”

According to a spokeswoman from the leisure centre, the team at Picky are unable to say when they will be able to reopen at this point.

A statement from the Pickaquoy Trust released earlier today confirmed that the matter is now under investigation by Police Scotland. According to reports from police in Kirkwall, one person has been taken into custody in relation to the incident.

No further details are being given at this time.
